National Rankings The Fargo Moorhead area is ranked among the best places in the country to live, work, attend school and conduct business.  A few of the more recent rankings include the following:  

  • The American Institute for Economic Research has listed Fargo among the top 75 college towns and cities for 2012-13. Fargo is ranked No. 12 in the top college towns with populations below 250,000. Some of the factors included student concentration and diversity, research capacity, cost of living, arts and leisure, earning potential, entrepreneurial activity and unemployment rate.
  • #2 in Forbes Best Small Places for Business and Careers in 2012. The index ranks cities according to cost of doing business, educational attainment of the population, income growth, projected job growth and net migration.
  • #1 in Area Development's 2012 "Recession-busting" mid-size cities.  The Area Development recession buster index ranks MSAs according to their resiliency in productivity gained during the recession.  In addition, Fargo-Moorhead ranked #5 of all 365 MSAs, regardless of size, in Area Development’s overall Leading Locations list.
  • A list we are happy to be near the bottom!  Fargo-Moorhead ranked second to last of 117 cities on Sperling's 2012 Most Stressful Cities list for small metro areas.
